Beginnings

Starting out as a photographer my earliest work focused upon myself as subject matter, I began to experiment with solarization, dissolving the print image, photo etching and collage. I was literally working into the photograph, intrigued by these new processes, which in themselves could convey the passing of time. This work led to a slide sound sequence for my final show at art college entitled "The Birthday" which used slide sequences, like a series of film stills. I was influenced in the pre moving image series of photographs taken by the photographer Edward Muybridge and early Dada and Surrealist film. This work was completed between 1985 and 1986.
